Flappy Code
Tap to fly through the pipes. Every pipe you clear makes the next ones faster, narrower and closer together.
How to play
- Space, ↑, a click or a tap flaps.
- Each pipe you clear is a point. Touch a pipe, the floor or the ceiling and the run ends.
- F goes fullscreen and Esc leaves it.
How it's built
Difficulty is three functions of the score. Pipe speed is 1.4 plus 0.02 per point. The gap starts at 100 pixels and closes by 1.5 per point, down to a floor of 70. Pipes spawn every 100 frames, two fewer per point, down to 60.
The floors matter more than they look. Without them the gap would close past the bird’s own height and the game would become unwinnable rather than hard.
The sounds are oscillator tones made with the Web Audio API rather than recordings. The screen-reader announcement updates once per pipe, not once per frame.
The same component is the playable card on the home page. There it listens for keys only while it has focus, so Space still scrolls the page around it.
